Exploring New Options

Life Church Michigan is a start-from-scratch church plant that launched on St. Patrick’s Day in 2013. By God’s grace, Life Church has grown to more than six hundred people in three years. To date they have seen 365 salvations and 106 baptisms.

Life Church began renting a former golf center in Saginaw, Michigan, for Sunday worship. While praying for God to fill the facility in three years, they were literally at capacity in three months and had to add a second identical worship experience in February 2015 — in the dead of Michigan winter.

Exploring new options for their space constraints was frustrating since no commercial bank would loan to such a young organization. In February 2016, founding pastor Jonathan Herron was talking about this dead end with his wife, Amber. She mentioned receiving information in the mail from the Cornerstone Fund. Would they be willing to help Life Church?

When pastor Herron picked up the phone to contact Cornerstone, he quickly connected with Nate, a staff member who shared Herron’s sense of humor and passion for reaching lost people. Nate and his team worked closely with the leadership of Life Church to develop a robust plan for the future.

Phase One of the plan entailed purchasing an existing golf facility and accompanying 40 acres of land for future expansion. Based on Life Church’s strong financials and depth of integrity, Cornerstone Fund was pleased to loan the full amount in August 2016.

Having a permanent facility enabled Life Church to focus on its fast-growing ministries to children and to people who are far from God. Phase Two begins in 2017 with a Capital Campaign for a new worship center to be built on the newly purchased land in the heart of the Great Lakes Bay Region.

“What the Lord did through Cornerstone Fund is astonishing to me,” shared Pastor Herron. “The day we closed on the property, my first phone call was to Nate. I was holding back tears, thanking him for sticking his neck out and going the extra mile for our young church plant. Life Church loves the team at Cornerstone!”
