The experience of Journey Church – Merrill, Wisconsin

by Brad Main

Journey Church formerly met in a rented facility until God was ready to bless us with our own property. There were trials along the way. The city zoning commission wasn’t willing to part with the tax revenue that was formerly being generated by the bar on the property. Then the city council voted 7-1 against the church acquiring the building and land.  A few weeks later a procedural misstep led to further delays.

These delays taught us to humbly pray and to trust God for the results. After months of waiting, in mid-December 2014, the city council reversed its decision with a vote of 7-1 in our favor, which allowed for the rezoning of the property. On December 12, 2014, Journey Church took ownership of 1212 S. Center Ave. Church staff and the congregation were in awe and acknowledged that God acquiring this property and it was truly a miracle.  A second miracle was having our offer accepted, just within our budget. And third, through a capital campaign the congregation exceeded our down payment and remodeling costs.

The support we received from Converge Cornerstone Fund was a major part of our miracle. No bank was going to give us a loan; we had nothing to offer. But our brothers and sisters at Cornerstone Fund believed in the mission of Journey Church and provided the financial support and encouragement we needed to acquire the church property.

Today the miracle continues as the hard work and generosity of our people has transformed what was just another bar and banquet hall into an attractive and unique house of worship. The City of Merill itself is beginning to see change. People continue to visit Journey Church, leaving with a greater understanding of the sweet life in Jesus.

We are very excited about the prospect of owning our first building and to witness how God will use it to advance his kingdom in our hometown. It is God to whom we give all the credit and thanks and praise for providing for our church!

We will continue to remain partners with Converge Cornerstone Fund as God continues to bless our ministry. With God’s blessing, we may need a building expansion before too long. The people of Journey Church thank Cornerstone Fund and the investors for their consideration and service. Their dedicated and knowledgeable staff helped make the loan process a smooth and enjoyable journey for us.
